"ED presentation"

About: Maroondah Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I have presented to ED 3 times in one month, I have been dismissed with severe high blood pressure, abdominal pain and severe pelvic pain. All they did was an X-ray and told me I had no broken bones and sent me home as if I were a hypochondriac. A recent CT scan has shown multiple abnormalities including lesions, fibroids and cysts on my liver, uterus and pelvis. The GP has now asked me to attend ED for an urgent MRI.

Due to my experience, I don’t even want to go to be turned away. I can’t move. I can’t bear weight on my hips, I have pain going to the toilet, I pass out and have high blood pressure everyday. I don’t understand how ED hasn’t even looked at my heart and performed abdominal scans when I presented to Maroondah hospital that many times. I feel our healthcare system is in the toilet. Instead of catching whatever I have early it is now two months later and I feel it could be cancer. How do I get an mri when only the hospitals bulk bill but seemingly dismiss me like I’m complaining…..

Dear echorw43

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I'm sorry you feel it hasn't been what you expected.

You raise a number of matters that I believe require further review, including how you can get access to to bulk billed MRI.

Could I please you make contact with the Patient Relations Advisors within the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience?

They can be contacted by either calling 1800 EASTERN or by emailing feedback@easternhealth.org.au. If you choose to call please be aware that it is possible that the Patient Relations Advisors may be on another call at the time you ring and if so you will be invited to leave a message so they can return your call.

Thank you again and I hope we hear from you soon.

Kind regards

David
