"Treated like family"

About: Kiewa Valley House

(as a friend),

I became power of attorneys for a friend following her husband's death. I helped with general shopping, cleaning & gardening. I also took care of banking which was a downward spiralling mess. My friend started to become a little confused (with the help of alcohol) and then generally. At this point, and after some medical issues at a nearby hospital, the Medical/Nursing fraternity helped to keep my friend in a respite situation. She was diagnosed as not able to stay in her home and was eventually placed in Kiewa Valley House.

Myself and my friend were enveloped by an incredibly caring Health Community of the North East and then Alpine Health who continue to this day. The staff at KVH treated me as family and the care shown to my friend was wonderful. In my dealings with my friend, there was a really good relationship with a part of the family & also bad part to contend with. Overall, my friend's life has been full of as much happiness as she would allow. The medical side of life is still wonderful.

Dear festivitygb99

Thank you for taking the time to share your story, your friend's story and the care you have both received.

As your story tells us, aging is a complex and ever-changing time of life. It is heartening to hear of the care you and your friend have received from the health community in the region and locally at Alpine Health.

We work hard with residents and their families to make transitions as smooth as possible and to establish Kiewa Valley House as their home,

I am proud that you feel our staff treat you like family.

Your story will definitely have a positive influence on staff morale.

Your friend is fortunate, to have you in their life to help them navigate the complexities of aged care and to continue bringing happiness to their days.

Kind regards

Andrea Herrin

Acting Director of Clinical Operations Mt Beauty
