I recently visited Augusta Hospital (WA) ED while holidaying in the Southwest, for wound dehiscence treatment (the surgery had been done at a Metropolitan skin clinic). I was surprised to learn that my data was already in the system as I have no recollection of having attended a public hospital before. The patient profile data already in the system had the same name and date of birth as mine but her address was different. As a migrant I have very uncommon first and second names and surname. I expressed my concern about "identity theft" to the attending nurse who spoke to the hospital administrator, Carey. Carey was amazing. She reassured me that people can have the same (complex) names and dates of birth, however she has gone beyond her duty of care to investigate the matter further and has referred it on to head office. I was most impressed with the level of service provided by Carey and I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to her.
At the same time I would like to thank the nursing staff and Dr Martin for their professional care and kindness during my 4 visits to Augusta Hospital ED.
