"My weeks stay in hospital"

About: Margaret River Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I arrived after a fall on bathroom tiles in the early hours. ER was well staffed, prompt attention and kept me calm. I was then admitted to a ward with broken ankle, knee cap and a fine lump on my head.

It was hard sitting in a wheelchair in a corridor waiting for a room to be ready! We waited and waited and passing staff would tell me 10 minutes then 10 minutes, I was left for over an hour with no leg support, all I wanted was to crawl into bed and sleep!

Once on the ward I was offered a private room overlooking pretty gardens.

In my 9 day stay I was treated by incredible kindness and professionalism by every staff member I came into contact with. Your gorgeous nurses were so positive about every new step I made.

Getting me home became a nightmare and the doctors, social worker and OT all tried so hard.

Dear lyrajx85,

Thank you for posting your story on Care opinion.

Our gardens were replanted a few years ago following a suggestion by one of our palliative patients citing the effect that being near nature can bolster a person's mental and physical wellness - so it makes me very happy to hear that you found our gardens pretty!

Apologies for having to wait without leg support - I will remind staff of the importance of this in future.

It is wonderful that the multi-disciplinary team worked hard to get you home!

We indeed have wonderful nurses, and I will take great pleasure in passing on your lovely comments to them.

I hope you are healing well.

Kind regards

Marie Tweedie

Dear lyrajx85,

I would like to let you know that I have shared your Care Opinion story with our ED staff. It has served as a reminder of the importance of keeping our patients informed and offering comfort measures when needed, especially if there is a delay in admission or treatment.

I hope you are continuing on your road to full recovery and wish you a happy festive season.

Thank you again for taking the time to write in Care Opinion.

Yours Sincerely

Sandy Znidarsich
