"Old damaged beds"

About: Busselton Health Campus / General Ward

(as the patient),

I was recently admitted to Busselton Hospital for a hip replacement

All the staff I saw from the clerical nursing doctor and physios were all amazing and I cannot fault them which I tried to feed that back during my stay

The food was lovely and the staff that served it were always smiling and happy

There were a few downsides however a patient who appeared to have some issues came in to the room shouting and swearing seemingly unhappy with their stay, it was quite upsetting and scary as I wasn’t sure they would attack me. Thankfully the nurses were able to assist them out of my room and take them away. There as also someone screaming through the night and when I asked the nurse what was happening they apologised and said it was a patient who has cognition problems and doesn’t know what they are doing

Surely, in my opinion, this is not the place for these types of patients?

Finally when I woke up after surgery, I felt the bed I was on looked liked something from 1970s and didn’t work when not plugged in

The rails dropped suddenly at one point and I was worried it would catch someone’s fingers.

Overall the staff were amazing and I can’t fault them

Dear learningce34,

I'm very glad the team gave you good clinical experience while you were a patient with us at Busselton Hospital. Our joint replacement team have worked tirelessly to provide a high-quality service which wouldn't be possible without support from all the support services teams.

Yes, there are patient cohorts that provide special challenges and our team go above and beyond to provide compassionate care for all of these groups.

I hope you'll be happy to know that we have a bed replacement program in place now and new beds have arrived and been commissioned for the ward. We will continue to replace equipment as required but your feedback is appreciated.

If you have any questions or queries, please give me a call on 9753 6372

Yours sincerely, Dan.

Daniel Anderson

Director of Nursing and Midwifery

Busselton Hospital
