I was at the hospital with my partner.
While waiting in the emergency department waiting room, I witnessed three separate interactions between three separate patients and staff at the hospital. All of these were negative and made me feel very uncomfortable and sad for the people who were trying to access care. All three patients were non-English speakers and I believe they were not treated kindly or with respect. It seemed none of them were rude or aggressive towards the hospital staff - they just didn’t have the language or the knowledge of the system to know what to expect. I believe one of them left without having their treatment completed because of the apparent rudeness of the staff (it seemed both the nursing staff and the admin staff).
While I fully understand that hospital staff are often treated badly by patients - I feel these patients were polite and respectful.
