Last year I started treatment for stage 4 non Hodgkin Lymphoma after a tumour was discovered in my right pelvic bone. I was diagnosed as being high risk and as a result was eligible to get onto a clinical trial lead by the fantastic Prof Mark at the Nelune Comprehensive Cancer Centre at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney.
My treatment consisted of 6 rounds of chemo and immunotherapy, one week apart, and then finished off with two consolidation rounds of immunotherapy. In all, I had to attend the Haematology Oncology Day Centre (HODC) on Level 4 on 14 occasions.
From my first infusion to my last, I was in the care of the most wonderful people I have ever met. I honestly felt like I was in the best possible hands the moment I walked into the day centre and was assigned a nurse for the day. Their exceptional professionalism and bedside manners were complemented by light hearted humour which was a greatly appreciated! The compassion which they all exuded was palpable and made a rather foreboding and stressful situation a lot easier to accept and handle.
I’m very fortunate that the treatment has worked and that I’m now in remission. This is in no small part due to the care provided during the administering of the treatment by this wonderful, world class group of professional nurses who I feel are a credit to this life saving profession.
I will never forget what you have done not only for me, but many others besides.
Thank you all very much!
