Attended Emergency Dept with work colleague who had received a laceration requiring stitches to her shin. My colleague was attended to straight away by various nurses to assess her injury. We were advised that the Doctor on call would attend as soon as able to suture the laceration. My colleague and I were offered refreshments and continually checked in on while we waited.
After a time, there was a shift change and a nurse called Karen signed on. She advised that she was able to suture the wound, and set up to proceed. She informed my colleague and I of what she was doing, concerns regarding the wound, and then proceeded to administer a local anaesthetic and start stitching. She was fantastic, her skills, communication and caring, funny nature made a potentially awful situation much easier to bear for my colleague. We couldn't thank Karen enough - a beautiful natured person and a wonderful asset to the Hospital and community.
