"Day Surgery"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Surgical Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I recently had occasion to present to Day Ward for a Colonoscopy. There was several emergencies into theatre which delayed my procedure. But because I was booked for an overnight stay, I was taken to the ward to wait for the crowd to clear. I felt comfortable while awaiting my turn in theatre. The staff I saw were a treasure, keeping me informed as to what was happening.  In the afternoon I was taken to theatre where the staff were very kind and easy to work with. When I awoke all the tools of the surgeon were all packed away, and the same lovely crew were there, all smiles and happiness.  Back to the ward, a sandwich and coffee was a real boost. All along there was "Are you feeling OK, any pain?" The evening meal was a casserole, and it was really filling and tasty. I was released in the morning after rounds, with my Care Plan in hand. I was really impressed with the service and attention I was given. My thanks to the 'D' Ward staff of hard workers.

Dear Keizh45

Thank you for the wonderful feedback, it is great to hear that you were well cared for during your recent admission. I agree our staff are wonderful They work hard and maintain positive and caring attitudes despite their busy roles. However, I always love to hear this straight from someone who has experienced our service.

As you have outlined, having emergency cases present for unplanned operations can mean the team have to make adjustments on the go, but I am glad they kept you informed throughout this process and that you were able to wait back on the ward more comfortably and away from the crowd.

It is also really great to hear that the steps for communicating your Care Plan with you were all completed and that the staff were attentive at looking after your pain as well throughout your stay.

We will make sure your positive feedback is shared with the team, not only the staff on the wards, but also those in the kitchen who work hard behind the scenes to keep all our patients fed with wholesome food in line with strict guidelines and requirements.

I hope you are on the mend now.

Kindest regards

Alicia
