"Privacy after day procedure"

About: Bright Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I was in for a day procedure at Bright Hospital.

My privacy as I came out of theatre was compromised. The next patient who was waiting to go in (in "anaesthetist room") could hear my conversation as I was waking up from the anesthesia/sedative. This person knew then that it was me. As we live in a small population this can be detrimental and I know that people most definitely say all kinds of things when waking up. The Nurses may be sworn to protect your privacy, but a patient is not.

On a positive note, Nurse Jan was lovely and made me feel very comfortable upon arrival.

Dear smoothcat,

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We apologise for this experience and as you have noted, the Nursing staff are governed by the privacy act to ensure your admission is confidential.

Living in small communities does allow for the paths of people who know each other to cross which unfortunately is what you have experienced. We will discuss this with the perioperative team to ensure that the door between the two areas is closed at all times. Is there any other suggestion you may have that may help us improve in this space?

Thank you for the lovely words about Jan, we will pass this on to her.

Happy to discuss this further to help identify areas for improvement for future patients.

Kind regards,

Tanya Hart
