"Midwives going above and beyond"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I want to thank a few midwives who made what was a difficult/ traumatic experience at KEMH much better. Firstly Bonnie and Tayla (sorry if I have spelt incorrectly). Tayla, you so keenly supporting me to go in to theatre after having been there the night before caring for me in early labour, your familiar face and encouragement meant so much. Bonnie thank you for supporting me, and trying so hard to get the outcome I wanted.

I can't help but be angry sometimes that I was facing extra pressure due to my predicted 4.5kg baby who was considerably smaller at 3.7kg, and I wonder if the size was known would I have been sent home at 1cm instead of admitted.. anyway, your support meant so much.

Erin and Ashleigh on Ward 3 thank you for your care. I am EBF my baby and I thank you for that, you played a big part in getting my baby off formula post NICU. Erin thanks for getting the colustrum straight to my baby and for even giving me a window of sleep, and Ashleigh for listening to me and what mattered to me. The care from you 4 won't be forgotten and made the experience so much less clinical.. thank you. Your job is so important and I believe so many women will have been held by what you do.

Dear defendersq35,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your experience with King Edward Memorial Hospital.

I am so pleased to hear that although your birth did not go to plan you received the care you needed to support you through your early labor, and subsequent care in theatre, for the birth of your baby. I am pleased that Bonnie and Tayla were able to offer continuity in the care provided. Our staff strive to provide our patients and their families with the support to achieve positive outcomes during their pregnancy journey, particularly when birthing plans are changed unexpectedly, such as your experience.

It is also great to hear that you received the same level of support during your stay on ward 3 and that both Erin and Ashleigh supported you with breastfeeding your baby and enabling you to get some much-needed sleep.

WNHS is incredibly proud of the maternity care that is provided by our staff and the way they work with our patients to achieve positive outcomes. We will pass your thanks onto the staff mentioned.

Once again, thank you for providing us with this great feedback. I wish you the best for the future.
