"Inaccurate and unhelpful"

About: Jurien Bay Health Centre

(as a service user),

I attended Jurien Nursing post and was attended by a staff member. I advised the staff member I needed a Respiratory and COVID PCR as well as bloods as with a path form supplied by my Respiratory Consultant from a different hospital as I had been unwell for a couple of weeks since returning from overseas (always wear a mask).

I felt I was advised rudely to go next door to the doctors practice. Advised that their path centre was closed & they told me to attend Nursing post.

Then advised they do not do testing anymore and to go to Joondalup or Geraldton. I advised I had Cystic Fibrosis, Respiratory Consultant wanted done and driving to 2.5 hrs ridiculous and doesn’t sound correct to me!? It seemed to me, fill car with fuel and drive 2.5 hrs and clog a ED for bloods and PCR when unwell? Seriously?! I also questioned where were people to go and how were Covid stats collected? I recall the staff member advised that they are not collecting anymore.

I then asked for this to be checked with Manager as I have CF and am also a healthcare worker.

The staff member returned and they advised me they could do it this time.

Basically, I felt should apparent common sense prevail rather than abruptness?

Dear CF Fridges

Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns reading your experience at Jurien Bay Health Centre when requesting access to pathology services whilst feeling unwell. Our team strives to deliver the best possible health outcomes daily, and I am saddened to hear on this occasion your experience was not a positive one.

I apologise unreservedly for the redirection and miscommunication. Please be assured the circumstances around the incident have been investigated and discussed with staff. Clarification and direction in relation to COVID and testing has been given. These discussions have included all external and temporary staff who have joined us.

Kind regards

Jeanette Syme

Acting Western Operations Manager Wheatbelt

Thank you for your response. I do understand the nursing staff are overworked, particularly in this harsh Covid climate. I hope things ease in the future.
