About: Wyndham Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I went to the hospital with our infant baby who has been sick for a few days and it has gotten worse.

Our baby was coughing badly and was short of breath. It took about 2.5 hours before I was able to see a doctor. 2.5 hours!

In my experience, the staff at the hospital is friendly as always but I feel these wait times are completely out of control. As mentioned I waited for over 2.5 hours to see a doctor and was out in 20 minutes. People have fulltime jobs and without what I believe to be the proper staffing to make appointments to see a doctor this is getting frustrating. Babies also need their naps so waiting at a hospital for over 2.5 hours I believe is just unacceptable.

I feel it's embarrassing how badly organised the health care is at the Wyndham Hospital. A complete disgrace in my opinion.

Thank you for sharing your health care experience at the Wyndham District Hospital. It is important that we get feedback about our services, so I appreciate that you took the time and effort to contact us through the Care Opinion website.

On behalf of the Wyndham District Hospital, I would like to express my regret that the health care options that were available to you did not meet expectations.

I note your comments about the wait times in the Emergency Department and I acknowledge how stressful it must be for parents when an infant is unwell.

It can be a difficult task to prevent delays at the Wyndham District Hospital, as patients presenting are triaged and the doctor has to manage both the booked appointments and patients who have been triaged as urgent. As the timing of emergency presentations can be unpredictable, it is also a challenge to structure the delivery of care around a baby's nap time. With this said, our staff do try their best to see all patients, especially infants, in a timely manner and I apologise that this was not this case with your presentation.

We are continuously reviewing how we can improve the medical services and waiting times for the community, so thank you once again for bringing this issue to the attention of the Wyndham District Hospital. If you would like to discuss the matter further, you are welcome to call me on 0408 944 305.
