"Ophthalmologist appointment"

About: Fremantle Hospital and Health Service / Ophthalmology Department

(as the patient),

Had an ophthalmologist appointment, left less than impressed!

The doctor just turned around and said I just have dry eyes nothing to worry about, yet I failed yet another field test, still have a swollen optic nerve and Papilledema! Told I just need eye drops and warm water will solve it! I have IIH with a swollen open nerve, I'm pretty sure eye drops won't solve it!

Then to top it off, I recall they got a phone call mid-appointment and said they’ve got to take this so off I go! Not impressed with the service I received!

Dear hawkkt76,

I am sorry to read that you were not impressed with your Ophthalmology appointment.

As Care Opinion is anonymous, we do not have your full details for the Ophthalmology department to review, however it appears as if you have two concurrent conditions and the assessment at your last appointment was focused more on one than the other. The Ophthalmology team apologise if you feel you received anything less than their best care.

Regarding the telephone call, the Ophthalmology team at Fremantle Hospital covers the entire South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) region and has an on-call Registrar who receives all urgent phone calls from across SMHS 8:00 am – 5:00 pm daily. As these urgent phone calls contain personal information the doctor is required to “step out” of the room to take these calls. We apologise if you felt that one of these calls cut short your appointment.

If you would like to have a follow up phone call with an Ophthalmologist to clarify your treatment and ongoing care plan / recommendations, please contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service (9431 2787) who can take your name and contact details and forward them to the Ophthalmology department.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty

Group Executive Director

Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group.
