"Breach of confidentiality"

About: Western Australia

(as a carer),

I was in the emergency department recently at the triage chairs with my young child and I recall there were about 5 others there waiting to be triaged as well.

The nurse that was on, I guess that was triage nurse that day, came out to the chairs and I recall asked every person there what was the reason for their visit to ED that day to which they replied with what was their various physical complaints.

I know that the reason for being in ED is confidential and I found it quite confronting that they were asking everyone about this in front of everyone and I am kicking myself that I didn’t actually say something to the nurse about it. I don’t want my name made public (I didn’t know the nurse's name) I just would like to make it known that it has occurred so changes can be made as I feel this type of practice might deter patients from coming to ED in the future.
