I could not speak more highly of the extremely efficient, dedicated and friendly staff at Kunnunurra. I needed to transfer to Royal Perth for a hand injury because the Dr and reception had organised admission for surgery the next day. I was advised to go to PATS. This is where it went pear-shaped for me.
I am from NSW and working for the season in WA so I was not eligible for PATS service. I was ok with that, but the reception I received from, I believe, a not-friendly member of staff at the PATS office was beyond belief and upsetting. I recall the staff member quizzing me snidely about my accident. I was told to come back in a couple of hours as the staff member was to talk to management, around 2 hrs later I received a phone call to say I’m not eligible- ok. So I returned to pick up my forms and seemingly had them just pushed at me rudely again. Not a word spoken. I feel the staff member must have been having a bad day. So was I, and they just made it worse. End of story.
We drove to Broome over night after already driving 8 hrs to get to Kunnunurra. Then, flew to Royal Perth where I felt I was treated like royalty for the 5 days I was there. Guess I should mention that I am a nurse myself. In my opinion, we are so fortunate to have the health system that we do. Thank you so much to all staff at Kunnunurra and Royal Perth, you are just what this planet needs: professional and caring!
