Recently, I called an ambulance for my partner due to their GP recommending they attend Joondalup Hospital. My partner was experiencing severe kidney pain. I called an ambulance, which arrived after 90 minutes. In my opinion, this wait time was too long.
When we arrived in Emergency, we presented to triage in the afternoon. My partner was in severe pain and categorised as a Level 3. Why was my partner categorised as a Level 3? How do you categorise patients? I recalled my partner was not offered any pain relief in the meantime.
We have private health insurance, and I felt this made no difference to the wait times we experienced. How do we access shorter wait times at a private health facility?
We waited on the waiting room chairs as requested. We waited there until later in the night. Five hours later, we were accepted into the ED treating areas. The nurse told us they only had 1 machine to do the scan. We had to wait an hour to get the scan and another hour to receive the results. We did not leave the hospital until the early hours of the morning the next day.
