(as the patient),

I have a terminal illness & whilst on heavy painkilling medication, I was woken by two nurses, lights blazing & circling my bed, at 2.30 am! I was in a deep sleep & it took me a while to realise it was 2.30 am in the morning! I was told that I had to collect my belonging, & move into a shared room as another patient needed my single room.

I felt completely intimidated & confused, as I wear hearing aids & wasn’t wearing them at the time, therefore I couldn’t understand what was going on & why these nurses were pushing for me to get out of bed.

 I was so angry, tired, sick & in pain and felt I was being spoken to like an angry Mother would speak to her child.

Dear guidekf99,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion. I was very sorry to read of your ordeal – it certainly does not reflect the standard of care we strive for and expect our staff to provide.

At times, dependent on clinical need, patients are required to move rooms. And due to the often unpredictable nature of clinical need, this may be at very inconvenient times. We are unable to change that. What we can change is the manner in which you were spoken to and treated. I would like to apologise on behalf of the hospital group for the way you were left feeling, and in the first instance, I would like to discuss your incident with the Nurse Unit Manager of the ward you were on.

In order to do that I require some more information about you (as Care Opinion is an anonymous platform). As such, may I request that you contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service on 6152 4013, or FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au so that we can complete an investigation that will drive changes and improvements?
