I needed help to breastfeed my baby as she wasn't latching well and nursing caused pain and discomfort. I called the Breastfeeding Centre of WA and was able to attend an appointment the following morning.
The lactation consultant I spoke with was extremely informative and helpful. She weighed my baby to ensure that she was gaining enough weight (she was) and helped me to get a better latch by adjusting my technique in holding the baby as well as positioning of both baby and breast. I spent 90 minutes with her in total, and she was able to watch me feed my baby on both breasts to ensure that I was able to get a better latch. She spoke to me about additional support services that I might need further down the track and gave me information about expressing milk and breast pumps.
I was very impressed with the level of support I received, completely free of charge.
