"Compliment & Complaint"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I was admitted via Ambulance for hypertension recently. Madonna (ED Doctor) and Rowan were so attentive and were prompt with tests and feedback.

I was transferred to Short stay and I think the name of the nurse is Kylie who finished up around 9 pm. She was fantastic. Again blood/urine tests were followed up and was constant with BP monitoring.

In my opinion, the nurse who took after her was awful. I had to basically take the ECG plugs off me. I have been to a lot of hospitals and never have I ever been asked to do that. This nurse asked if I could I take it off and said otherwise they would have to touch me.

I work at another Hospital and have mentioned it to one of the Director Clinical Operations and they mentioned that that should never have happened. That's a requirement of a nurse's duty.

So I am making a complaint. I don't want any other patient to feel the way I felt. I didn't know how to pull it out. If it were an elderly and confused patient that would have upset them. I had showered that day so I wasn't filthy as this nurse made me feel, or worse I was infectious.

Dear foxtrotbd97,

Goodness! I am dismayed that one of our nurses would tell a patient that they can't touch them to provide care, even in this new COVID world we live in. I understand how this would make you feel and I am very sorry. As a nurse (and patient) myself, I do know that it is sometimes less uncomfortable if the patient takes these ECG dots off themselves but that is less of the issue here.

Thank you for letting us know. It would be great if you could call me or text me (0472 846 355) with your name and DOB so that we can review the roster and chat with the nurse involved and see why it happened the way it did.

Thank you also for taking the time to talk about how great the ED team were otherwise. I know they will be very chuffed to get your feedback. I hope you are recovering well.

Yours in Kindness,

Jan
