"The wonderful care given"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

Nothing should change - all the staff, especially Luke, made me feel special. The hospital is wonderful (mind you it's nice to be home). They feed you well.

I was taken by ambulance from my doctors and sent home by a cab, charge paid by the hospital.

Earlier this year in the afternoon I went to my medical clinic in San Remo to have a blood test. I believe the nurse was at lunch so I called into the San Remo Chemist, next door, and collected a script.

I wasn't feeling the best but decided to wait in the car until the nurse returned from their lunch break. Whilst in the car, my doctor contacted me by telephone (mobile) and started to chat with me about my earlier blood test. As soon as the doctor realised I was virtually outside they summoned me to the medical clinic.

My husband was with me and as we went to the medical centre I felt short of breath and slow-moving. The Dr met me at the door of the medical clinic and took me straight to their room. Some tests were conducted and the doctor seemed quite concerned about the results of my blood test. The Dr placed a call for an ambulance which initially was within the hour, but arrived much sooner.

The paramedics put the sticky pads to my body and ran their machine and obtained test results. The Dr then joined them and said that I was seriously short of salts (sodium), I believe, in my blood and that I must be transported to Wonthaggi Hospital straight away.

The paramedics put me onto a stretcher and I was taken to Wonthaggi Hospital. I was feeling very exhausted and fatigued.

The hospital staff, Dr and nurses, attending to me placed a drip into my left arm and I was put into a bed and the staff at the hospital took care of me. I also had x-rays and blood tests taken whilst I was a patient in the hospital.

I was looked after extremely well by all the staff. Luke, one of the nursing staff was very kind and professional, he was also funny. All the nursing staff and Dr were very caring. The food was nice, also.

The form I was given upon discharge asks about any change/s, in my opinion, I don't think anything should be changed.

I was in Wonthaggi Hospital for three days. I was discharged on the third day in the afternoon and was transported home by taxi and the cab charge, arranged and paid for by the Wonthaggi hospital (no patient transport available on weekends).

Please say goodbye to all of the staff that cared for me during my stay.

I am much improved but still have a way to go.

More blood tests are scheduled and consultations with my Dr.
