Throughout my treatment, over a period of about a month, I could not fault the medical, nursing and ancillary services staff of the Haematology Ward (10W) at POWH. They were caring at all times and concerned for my well being and were only too happy to help with my recovery.
From the first day when the inevitable paperwork and administration tasks had to be completed, the staff proved to be friendly, helpful and willing to answer any questions that I had. On that day, I met the two clinical nurses who followed my treatment and progress every day of the working week.
The ward nursing staff were always happy, helpful and constantly sought to make my treatment and recovery as problem-free as possible - nothing was a trouble for them. In a ward where there is around 20 nursing staff across different shifts, I cannot identify one who did not set a high professional standard.
Similarly, the medical staff were also professional in their approach but willing to respond to questions about treatment and progress. They were also easily accessible. The nursing staff and doctors worked well together and were in constant contact on treatment issues. They also organised ancillary services (CT scan, X-ray, dietitian etc) in a seamless manner.
Whilst the ward itself is showing its age, it is good to know it will be moving to new premises within the next few years.
