"Birthing Experience"

About: Bunbury Hospital

(as the patient),

This year, I attended the Positive Ceaserian Course that you held at BRH.

I wanted to let you know that I found it very informative, and it gave me some wonderful ideas to include in my birth preferences.

After leaving that day, @35+1w,  I had a very quiet day (for once) for the remainder of it.

I went and collected my toddler from daycare at around 5:30, and on the way home I felt a huge amount of pressure and some tightening started.

I presumed it was Braxton Hicks and I monitored it for the evening. I went and lay in bed at around 9, and it didn't subside! I called maternity at BRH, and told them what was happening and they advised I should go in for CTG.

I initially presented to Margaret River where I was put on the CTG (Cardiotocography) monitor, this confirmed I was having contractions.

I was transferred to Bunbury via ambulance, and there I stayed until the twins were delivered on their scheduled date. My section was wonderful.

I could not have been happier with how everything went that day.

I had written my birth preferences, and everyone that was in theatre that day did all they could to grant them. The twins were born alert and required no help breathing, or with feeding.

I was in hospital for 19 days altogether and I honestly can't thank everyone enough for the care that I was given. The doctors, midwives and the ancillary staff were all beautiful.

I miss all of them, and once Rona goes, I will be up with the twins!

The anaesthetist I had was the same man (Ivan) I had with my first, and again, he was wonderful and took photos of our twins being born.

When I was in, I did see posters with how to provide "gifts", but have forgotten what to do. Could you please advise me how I go about this?

Dear liberatorxy66,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback via Care Opinion, especially as I can only imagine how busy your household must be with a new set of twins.

I truly enjoyed reading your labour and birth journey. I am pleased that we were able to provide you with the support and care required during this time. Your story demonstrates the wonderful team that we are fortunate to have within the South West – Margaret River staff, Ambulance team, and our own Bunbury staff.

We are touched by your offer of a gift as a way to recognise and thank staff for their caring work. Your words will mean a great deal to the team and while we can’t accept gifts of goods and services, a box of chocolates always brings a smile to the day. The posters that you saw on the ward were outlining these rules around the WA Health Department Gift, benefits and hospitality policy.

I wish you well with your parenting journey. I am sure the skills and strategies that were taught in the antenatal classes will continue to be of use and benefit as you navigate your way through juggling your twins. Thank you again.

Katrina Jones,

Clinical Midwifery Manager Bunbury Maternity
