"Giving Birth"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity Positive Birth Program

(as the patient),

I could not fault anything with Bunbury Hospital. To the midwife/OBGYN appointments and actually giving birth at the maternity ward - everyone that we encountered were extremely helpful, very informative and very flexible and support when giving birth.

My spouse and I attend the 4 'Positive Birth Classes' with Kasey. This was a great experience. I felt the classes gave us tools and resources that we used before and after giving birth. As we do not live in Bunbury; my spouse had to fly down his days off; we worked with Kasey so we could attend all the 4 sessions. The sessions were out of order but Kasey took the time and explained what they were up to and made it very easy for us to follow along.

Birth Story Below:

Baby boy arrived in the world very quickly a few months ago. I’m told it was a very text book birth. I heard my waters ‘pop’ and break during early hours of the morning and then half an hour later contractions were coming every two minutes. My spouse packed the last of the items for the labour bag and we headed to the hospital.

The midwife on shift was quite surprised I was in active labour when we arrived.

I got to utilise the water bath for a portion of the birth; but could not give birth in the bath due to COVID-19. Baby arrived in the morning via vaginal birth with no complications.

The birth was very fast and there was not much time to utilise the birthing tools that were planned. The bearing down technique and visualisation of baby coming down the j bend and out was very useful.

Your birthing classes equipped us with the knowledge and power.

We can not speak more highly of the midwives and doctors at Bunbury Hospital; they were so helpful and wonderful and they made our birthing experience very special; knowing that we were in safe hands. Midwives were very flexible and supportive.

And my spouse was an amazing support partner 💕💕

Dear hekazp68,

Thankyou for taking the time to write to Care Opinion. Congratulations on the birth of your son and for sharing your birth journey, it was lovely to read. I am glad that you found all the strategies and tools from the antenatal classes to be useful, and I am sure that as you settle into the “routines” of home they will continue to be helpful.

We are fortunate that at Bunbury we do have an amazing team of Midwives and Doctors and I know they will be all very grateful to receive your kind words. I wish you and your family all the best as you settle into the next chapter in your parenting journey. Take care.
