Recently, I was booked into the Day Surgery to have a Colonoscopy and was told two days prior to be there at a certain time. On arrival 15 minutes early, I waited for 10-15 minutes before a staff member appeared. I was finally called in to do the paperwork and shown where to get changed. There were three patients ahead of me and one told me they had been there for hours. After five of us sitting and waiting for several hours we were finally told there had been a hold up with an earlier operation. While I appreciate that emergencies do arise the chairs we were sitting on were the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever come across and when asked, the other patients totally agreed.
Sadly while I was sitting there I glanced at the floor and to my horror I found there were either toenail or fingernail clippings over the floor and not just one or two. To be fair the nursing staff were wonderful, but as a retired nurse I feel Bass Coast Health could make their waiting patients more comfortable. In hospitals where I have worked both large and small, Day Patients were placed on a bed to make their waiting time more comfortable, that way they could have a snooze, read a book or whatever but at least they were comfortable!
