"Excellent care at Busselton Health Campus"

About: Busselton Health Campus

(as the patient),

I was experiencing chronic pain in my bowels, and I had experienced worsening pain over the course of a week. Until it became so unbearable I went to a hospital’s Emergency Department (ED), from which I was sent home without truly listening to my symptoms. This story can be read here.

After a very painful, sleepless night, this time I went to the Busselton Health Campus ED. At this stage I couldn’t sit down as the pain was so severe.

I was seen by a Triage Nurse within 20 minutes who could see the extreme discomfort I was in and found me a bed to lay in immediately. Within 45 minutes of being triaged, I was seen by Dr Corinne. At every turn she listened to my symptoms and actually ran tests, the first of all being a blood and urine tests, and did all in their power to make me comfortable.

I cannot stress enough how much pain I was in at this stage, I was sweating profusely and I can honestly say I’d rather break a leg or have a severe concussion than experience this pain again. I was delirious from the pain and it felt like I was coming in and out of consciousness. After a while and a few exams and tests Dr Corinne came back. There were infection markers in my blood tests, coinciding with the exams they had conducted, so we had a diagnosis. It was suggested that I had an abscess in my rectum (later tests put this as a very large abscess not much smaller than a tennis ball) not pleasant to talk about, but it is what it is.

I was transferred back to the original hospital I went to for treatment. The only issue we experienced was that they did not tell us we would have to be triaged again by the hospital we were being transferred to.

The care I received from the Busselton Emergency Hospital was extraordinary and they diagnosed me after I was discharged from the original hospital. Please pass on my very thanks to Dr Corinne and the nursing team, their exceptional service and professionalism in my time of need will never be forgotten.

Hi serpenskt78,

I was concerned to hear about your recent experience in two ED’s and the amount of pain you must have suffered.

I am so glad that the response from Busselton was given in a timely manner and you were made comfortable quickly.

We are very fortunate that at Busselton we have a really great team of doctors, nurses, admin and support service staff and I will pass your compliments on to them.

I have noted your comment about being triaged again and will ensure we keep clients informed of that process. We really appreciate any feedback that can improve the patient journey.

I hope you continue to recover.

Yours Sincerely

Warm Regards,

Caroline Booker
