The shock phone call came from a kind, unknown nurse at the A & E Box Hill Hospital recently one afternoon. It's that call you don't want to get, Are you the next of kin of ......?
We are older parents who then flew from Qld that evening, arriving at Box Hill A & E, well after midnight by taxi from Tullamarine. Staff told us our son had been transferred to Maroondah Hospital I.C.U. They kindly advised Maroondah that we were coming.
A & E at Maroondah expected us and escorted us to I.C.U. We were treated with much respect and care, given comfortable chairs and blankets next to our son. The professional care of Andrea was wonderful. Thank you. Next shift came lovely Amy. Unfortunately she copped unnecessary abuse from our son, but rose above it. She was so professional, so caring and so kind under most difficult circumstances. We thank also all the doctors on duty that day esp. the psych. doctor who kept our son safe and organised his transfer to detox. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. We have returned to Qld, relieved and at peace.
