My wife was taken to emergency at St George Hospital one evening after falling down a staircase.
She was taken away for a scan and I left to return first thing the next morning.
On my return to the ward where she was being cared for I was told that her gold earrings were removed. I guessed this was necessary for the scan. When I asked where the earrings were I was told that they were being held in a safe.
On the day when my wife was being transferred to a nursing home, I asked for the earrings. Two staff in the ward said they knew nothing of the earrings, but would make inquiries. The staff returned and said they had found a report that my wife was not wearing any jewellery when she arrived in casualty.
My wife was wearing a number of pieces of jewellery when she arrived in casualty and at a later visit to another hospital a document headed (Record of Property) was completed and signed showing all the jewellery that she was wearing at that time.
I am most disappointed with the behaviour of the staff attitude to my requests.
Please look into the production of any document showing that my wife was wearing jewellery.
"Missing patient jewellery following an accident."
