Six months ago I penned an opinion which was titled - A number of concerns.
I did have a follow-up interview with the hospital administrator and that discussion, although cordial and enlightening, was limited to admin/operations matters. Hence I was assured that something was being done about what I believed was the the dangerous food being dispensed in the waiting room. Thank you for that.
I was promised a discussion with the senior surgeon, who is responsible for the majority of the issues I raised in my letter. I was hoping the senior surgeon would be able to explain how the series of - in my opinion incompetencies which I identified in my admission and treatment were able to happen. I know surgeons are busy. That is taken for granted. But it has been 6 months and you still haven't contacted me.
People who come to your hospital come because they need good, safe, competent care. My observations I feel showed that your hospital and therefore the senior surgeon who is responsible, was not providing a competent and safe place for me to be. In the end, I had 3 different courses of antibiotics. Despite seeing more than 12 doctors of various disciplines, except for the admitting doctor, I never saw the same doctor more than once and during a 4 month treatment regime, only one person saw my wound more than twice. If it had not been for the care and attention of the Wound Clinic staff I don't think my wound would have ever healed. I thank them for that.I have detailed some of the events that took place with my admission and my initial treatment. I am still waiting for explanation of how things happened as they did. I'd like some assurance from the senior surgeon that the gaps in healthy treatment that I observed and experienced have been attended to. I don't think that's too much to ask. I am local resident who knows I will have to access the hospital again, but I wonder whether that is a safe idea to have in mind.I would like this senior surgeon to respond to genuine patient inquiries about the quality of the service for which they are responsible. You are a public servant after all.Next discussion is with the Minister.
