About: Sale Hospital / Medical Imaging

(as the patient),

I had an ultrasound done at the Central Gippsland Hospital, Sale and they forgot to send the results to the doctor. Only when I went back three months later about said knee was it that I found out they did not have the results. The doctor rang them there and then and got results emailed through. The result is I have a torn meniscus which is why it has been getting more and more painful! Now I have to get an MRI done, but this has been a waste of 3 months when I could have been having something done. It is just not good enough!

My name is Simon and I am the Manager of the Medical Imaging Department. I would like to thank you for taking the time to tell us your story and assure you that we take your feedback seriously.

I am very sorry that your imaging report was not directly available at the time of your appointment with your GP and that on this occasion our service has let you down.

We have undertaken an investigation into our procedures as a result of your story. I am currently working with my team and we have made a change as a part of your feedback.

The change results in radiology reports being matched to referrers’ provider numbers, instead of matching to the referrers’ name. Some referrers have multiple clinics or addresses and this change will ensure that all reports are sent to the appropriate address.
