On the worst stormy night, unable to see the road out of our farm, my husband drove 40 kilometres to Geraldton Hospital as I was experiencing terrible spin-outs with chest pains and severe indigestion.
I was very anxious on arrival and rather scared seeing the amount of people waiting in what looked like a very dingey waiting room. I was seen almost immediately by the triage nurse, who took my blood pressure and reassured me that it wasn't very high. Onto the next counter where my details were taken by a very friendly and helpful admin officer.
After waiting nearly an hour my name was called to be seen by a doctor who diagnosed my condition as vertigo. I had an injection and we left for home feeling much better. The lovely nurse, I didn't get her name gave me the injection and was friendly and professionally explaining possible side effects.
My reason for writing my patient opinion is that I know how the system works.
I know the staff, but I was not in a good place, especially travelling in a storm and then entering the ED waiting room coming in from the dark into what looked like a dingey waiting room feeling very anxious and stressful.
I was seen, treated and left within 2 hours and very grateful for the medical attention I received.
Looking forward to seeing the new look ED's face lift at Geraldton Hospital
