My Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital (SSEH) experience:
Recently I was admitted to SSEH for acute confusion likely secondary to HSV (Herpes Simplex Virus) Encephalitis. My confusion and memory loss continued acutely for 3 or 4 days and resulted in advanced and high level medical care; including batteries of blood tests, a CT scan of the brain, an MRI of the brain, a lumbar puncture and two weeks of intravenous infusion.
My life's work experiences have given me the ability to accurately observe and assess the quality of treatment I received from New South Wales Health during my confinement.
My following assessment is resultant of my confinement in Wards 2West and 2East; and my enquiries of a very content and happy staff have indicated that the quality of such inpatient services is uniform throughout the S/SEH.
I believe that at S/SEH, in comparison to previous experiences (all good) in both public and private hospital care, I experienced Australia's Public Health System's Best Practice in a totally integrated medical service; i.e. from the Broadway Medical Clinic and the Ambulance paramedical services; to the management, doctors and medical staff; to the nursing staff and the ancillary staff.
In two weeks I was treated by an utmost professional and caring medical and nursing staff at the S/SEH. The efficiency, communication and consideration of me as a patient by the full gamut of staff reflected 'Bedside Manner' that could only be described as 'a heavenly touch'.
