I was admitted to Box Hill Hospital via ED on my doctor's request after having to independently investigate my signs and symptoms of constant pain and nausea after being discharged from Maroondah Hospital 1 day prior. The entire ED team were very thorough in their patient assessment, offering analgesia and antiemetics. The surgical team doctors had excellent bedside manner, were very kind and listened to my entire ordeal and nature of my pain and nausea. I finally felt like I was I safe hands and I would get a diagnosis of what I presumed was appendicitis but strangely not in my right iliac fossa. I basically had every physical examination possible and every person palpating my abdomen before my considerate surgeon agreed to do a CT scan to determine what was going on in there. After my CT scan, my surgeon Dr Xavier came outside the CT scanner with a diagnosis of appendicitis that was behind my uterus! I was then taken to theatre to have it removed. All the doctors and nurses in the theatre were lovely and I felt very safe and happy that I was finally being treated after a total of 4 days of constant pain and nausea. In the PACU (post-anesthesia care unit) I had a nurse that remained 1:1 with me, who was lovely and alleviated my pain and gave me an icypole after being NBM (nil-by-mouth) for 3 days; I was very happy.
"Wonderful care for a very rare case of appendicitis"
