"SCGH Cancer Centre"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as a carer),

My husband is part way through treatment for cancer. We have found the multidisciplinary team at SCGH Cancer Centre skilled and supportive. They talk with each other and with us, which means that my husband's care is supported by their combined expertise and we both feel like we understand what is happening and can be active participants in his treatment. I have been so grateful and impressed by the way staff have treated my husband. He feels supported,   a nurse  checks on his progress at least weekly when he visits  the unit 5 days out of 7 days for radiotherapy and other appointments (e. g. speech therapy, dietetics); and a doctor is available at least weekly as well if needed. If he asks a question or has a concern, there is always a nurse or clinician available to respond and he is referred to the correct team member to address this. The care he is receiving is respectful and supportive both physically and emotionally. It is great that it is provided all in one place, as this simplifies the process for him as a patient navigating around a huge and complicated hospital campus and complex organisation. It is also good to feel part of a learning organisation with clinicians at different points in their training and research trials in progress.

Dear What about the patient,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of the SCGH Cancer Centre with us. It is wonderful to hear of the care and support our staff have provided to your husband and yourself in your treatment journey and the positive feelings this has left you both with.

I will ensure that your feedback is forwarded to the staff in Cancer Centre.

I wish you and your husband the best for the remainder of his treatment and a continued positive relationship with Charlies.

Kind regards

Jennifer Francis
