(as the patient),

Go to hospital for blood test... leave with an hand I can hardly  feel or recognise. 

It felt like the lady shoved the needle in and it felt like an electric shock followed by numbness and tingling. She continued taking blood. Go to ED to get checked out in immense pain and feel disconnected from my arm. They tell me I have ulnar nerve palsy! I believe there was no suggestion on how to treat my arm like should I be resting it or strapping it or anything. So much pain I was crying. Not allowed any pain meds apparently! Thank you. Call around hospital trying to get help they just felt palmed off to someone else or no one. If you can’t trust healthcare providers who can you trust? Left partially disabled and with no help.

Dear Plantagenet queen

Thank you for taking the time to report your concerns with your recent blood test and your attendance at the Emergency Department for treatment.

I apologise to you for the distress and discomfort that this experience has caused and continues to cause for you.

I understand you have been in contact with both our Centre for Patient Experience and Pathology teams to discuss your concerns and that an appointment has been made for you at a specialist clinic for assessment when the swelling has subsided.

In the interim, as your pain is continuing to cause you distress, I understand that your GP has suggested you return to an Eastern Health Emergency Department for assessment of what options may be available to you for pain relief in the interim.

I encourage you to contact the Patient Relations Advisors in the Centre for Patient Experience should you require further assistance at any time and to assist us in identifying where we could have improved in the level of care you were provided.

Thank you again for sharing your experience and hope we will be able to improve things for you in the short term.
