I had the chance to visit a friend who was in Banksia which is in GARU (Geriatric and Rehabilitation Unit) which is part of the PA Hospital and on the many occasions I visited my friend, the time they had to wait for a nurse to take them to the toilet was painful. At one stage my friend had to wait nearly 20 minutes for a nurse to arrive. In my opinion, they weren't the only patients having problems. I know of another patient who I believe was constantly ignored by certain nurses which caused this patient to become very anxious to even go back to their room. To me it borders on abuse to the elderly - as I said it was only certain nurses not all of them. Most are caring to their patients, but some of them appear to be vindictive and in my opinion shouldn't be in the nursing profession. I was concerned enough to approach first the nurse in charge then the NUM. I believe nothing was done and feel that basically they protect their own. I feel sorry for the ones still having to put up with those particular nurses.
