My sibling was rushed to Austin Hospital a while ago suffering from a stroke. They were operated on immediately and the procedure doctors performed was an 'Endovascular Clot Retrieval' which saved my sibling's life and, more importantly, they will have a 100% recovery because of this procedure. We were told that this procedure is only done at 3 hospitals in Melbourne - The Royal Melbourne, Monash Medical Centre and currently the Austin Hospital. We were informed that this procedure may be discontinued at the Austin Hospital and I believe that if that happened it would be a travesty for anyone who lives north of Melbourne who has suffered a stroke because time is of the utmost importance - minutes make a difference. Without this procedure, the outcome for my sibling would have been fatal.
