"Emergency health issue"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I arrived in Perth from overseas recently. In the early hours of the next morning, I woke up to a chest pain that refused to go away even as I tried to get back to sleep. Alarmed, I went to the A&E at the Royal Perth Hospital, which was just a short walk from the hotel where I was staying.

I was attended to immediately, and received warm and professional care from every member of the staff, although it was about 3 am in the morning. It was clear patient care and welfare came first regardless of who the person was, and the fact that I was a foreigner with only a passport for identity did not matter. After 4 hours of tests and observations, I was told there wasn't a serious problem, and I was cleared to continue my planned vacation in WA.

I want to thank the A&E staff at Royal Perth for the care I received. In particular Dr Ellen, whose empathetic treatment was heart-warming (excuse the pun!). I have just received the bill for the treatment, which I will pay with gratitude immediately.

May I also add that my wife and I, together with her sister and brother-in-law, thoroughly enjoyed our vacation in WA, driving a rented 4x4 from Margaret River to Coral Bay. I will have great memories of WA, the huge open spaces and friendly big-hearted people in a wondrous land. Thanks!

Dear Gratitude-thanks,

Thank you for telling us about your positive experience in the Emergency Department at Royal Perth Hospital. Needing urgent medical care whilst on holiday can make an already anxious time more stressful; so I am very pleased to read that you were given the right kind of care to minimise this.

Our teams of staff in the Emergency Department aim to give their best every day and I look forward to passing on your warm and positive feedback. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed your time in WA. I agree it is a fabulous place (I too am still enjoying exploring it).

Best wishes

Dr Aresh Anwar
