"Allergy clinic"

About: Monash Medical Centre / Allergy Clinic

(as the patient),

I scarily started getting chronic hives last year and was referred to the allergy clinic. It took months to get an appointment. When I finally attended the clinic I felt that my specialist was cold, rude, made no eye-contact and kept talking over me when I tried to tell my story. I said I was relived to finally get allergy testing and then I was told they would not be doing that. Because my GP had written that I also was prone to viruses they put the hives down to a virus and not allergies. I stated that I would still like to get the testing done since it had taken to long to get an appointment and I would like to rule everything out (plus I had some food suspicions). The specialist refused and was very rude about it and made me feel like they knew more about my body than I. I left in tears.

Another specialist came and spoke to me and again refused to the testing. While they did apologise they also walked off without saying goodbye or a handshake. Despite bringing in all of the blood tests I had already had done, I was still told to go and get the same blood tests. When I went and saw my GP they were very surprised that the specialist asked me to do that when I had already had all of those tests done recently, and that they didn't test for allergies. I cancelled my follow up appointment that they had booked in 6 months later.

I highly encourage anyone suffering with allergies to demand to be treated with respect, even if you do attend a bulk billing clinic.
