"Unhappy with my experience in hospital."

About: The Alfred

(as the patient),

I recently stayed 1 night at the Alfred in Melbourne. I waited in the family waiting room for 1. 5 hours to get a room, during which time an administrator from the office came to see me, asked if I had private health cover and did I want to make a donation to the hospital. I said okay to the donation cause my mum had died in the hospital years before. I was taken to a ward of 4 with 3 old men in it - I am a female. When I complained, the nurse told me the wards on that floor were all 4 bed wards, which I feel was not true as I believe the one I was in was the only one. I felt duped. I asked to see the Registrar who I believe allocated the beds. He told me couldn't do anything that night, but maybe tomorrow morning. The food I was served was inedible and I am a diabetic and it was unsuitable. The toilet had urine all over it and poo on the toilet seat. They didn't have a water jug for me and they didn't have a box to put my heart monitor in so I could go to toilet by myself - I did get a box the next day. The nurse came to see me later and told me that they would have a single room tomorrow morning and I would be transferred. Next day nothing changed, I kept asking about my room. By half way through the next day after no sleep, I discharged myself. The administrator stood in front of me and blocked my way and I felt very intimated by him. I had to ask him to move, signed a release form and I left.
