"Not enough help to women after having babies""

About: The Townsville Hospital / Maternity Unit

(as the patient),

I had the worst stay in the Townsville Hospital ever! ! ! !

I gave birth to my beautiful baby. I ended up not being able to deliver my placenta the midwife snapped my cord which caused my placenta to go back in and I begin to bleed I lost blood. When I woke up I got wheeled back into birth suit were my baby was. I was weak, I couldn't move, I couldn't even move my arms, I was exhausted and basically had the life taken out of me. And the nurse didn't help me one bit, I needed help to breastfeed my baby as I couldn't move. My best friend ended up helping me. Then that afternoon I got move to a room and I was angry they had put my baby in the little cot far away from me. I struggled to get up out of bed to pick baby up and they didn't seem to care one bit. I didn't even receive a blood transfusion when I should have. They put me on iron tablets! ! What's that going to do when I lost of blood. I ended up discharging myself the next day. I couldn't stand the thought of being there one more day. Sad to say I fully risked my life going home, just so I could receive the help I needed while being so ill ... Never want to have a baby in Townsville Hospital again! ! Next time I'm having my baby in a private hospital ! ! !

Firstly, congratulations on the birth of your beautiful baby.

I am sorry to hear that you have had such an unpleasant experience during your stay in our hospital following your baby's birth. This should have been an exciting and happy time for you and your family, so I am truly sorry that this has not been your experience.

We would very much like an opportunity to discuss your concerns in more detail so that we can investigate the issues you have raised. I encourage you to contact staff in our Patient Liaison Service directly on 4433 1074 at your convenience to discuss your concerns further.

With kind regards

Karina
