"A bit of a heart scare"

About: Broome Health Campus / Emergency Department Broome Health Campus / High Dependency Unit

(as the patient),

I was working in the garden when I started having some chest pains. I stopped for a rest but the pain wouldn't go away. I then said to my wife that she should probably take me to the hospital. On arrival I was seen immediately by the receptionist who then got a triage nurse. Within a couple of minutes I was taken into the emergency department and seen by a doctor. All of the staff were extremely helpful and caring and I was well looked after. A number of tests were carried out during the initial investigations and I was then moved into the HDU for further observations and tests. I was discharged after around 8 hours with further testing arranged over the following days.

Dear Heart Scare

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the ED and HDU department during your recent chest pain scare. Well done on following up and attending the hospital. Chest pain is a major symptom and something that needs prompt investigation, also a frightening ordeal for you and your wife!

I am pleased to hear the staff were attentive and efficient. I will ensure your feedback and appreciation is shared with the department and staff. It sounds like your treating team were very efficient, covering and checking for all possibilities.

We sincerely hope you symptoms are subsiding and all your future tests go well

Kind regards

Maureen

Update posted by Heart Scare (the patient)

Hi Maureen

Thanks for your reply. As stated in my initial story, all of the staff that I dealt with were fantastic, but I would particularly like to thank Milo (ED Nurse), Alex (ED Dr) and Kirsty (also known as Scotty - HDU Nurse) for their kindness and for being so thorough during my time in Hospital. We really are lucky to have such a wonderful service (and staff) available in Broome.

Dear Heart Scare

I'll ensure personally that your gratitude is passed on to Milo, Alex and Kirsty. They will be delighted to know you're much better as well as thankful for their care and kindness.

As the Medical Director here responsible for medical services, I agree with you - we are extremely fortunate to have a hospital team providing such a broad scope of health services here. With rare exception, I observe that our staff care for people with compassion, thoroughness and patience - kind gestures at times of great stress are the norm here.

Thank you for publically thanking Broome Hospital staff! Let us know any areas for improvement.

David
