I began volunteering at Drug Arm Ipswich 18 months ago and it has been one of the best experiences for me both personally and professionally. The training provided for me to become a Community and Family Support Services (CAFFS) counsellor was an excellent base on which to build clinical practice with the drug arm patrons. The 12 week counselling program we offer for AOD problems is supported by significant research in this sector, and has shown proven success with many, many clients. I have personally witnessed transformation with clients through utilising this program, and seen many clients' lives changed for the better. As a volunteer I feel part of a professional and extremely supportive team, and really value the supervision and professional development we receive and can gain access to through drug arm. Having originally wanted to pursue work in another sector upon graduation from my Masters, my work with Drug Arm means I will now pursue a career in the AOD sector.
