My elderly parent who was suffering from dementia was admitted to the Atherton Hospital in North Queensland recently after an extremely serious fall.
My other parent stayed at the hospital during the time it took my parent to pass, and the staff (doctor & nurses) were wonderful. They were kind and sympathetic to my other parent's needs, and ensured they were able to spend time saying goodbye to their partner of 25 years.
Any questions from the family were dealt with in a respectful and empathetic way, and follow up was carried through. We were given the opportunity to sleep in the private room and offer of the facilities allowed us to save precious time close by.
The support given made a particularly stressful and sad time a lot easier to bear.
