"The new oncology ward at Ipswich Hospital"

About: Ipswich Hospital / Medical Oncology Clinic Mater Hospital Brisbane

(as the patient),

I am currently having chemotherapy at Ipswich Hospital and have had treatment at the Mater Hospital, both hospitals have open wards with four chairs, and you spend four or more hours having treatment, during this time I have found it very helpful in conversation with the other patients discussing our cancer experiences.

The new oncology section being built at Ipswich Hospital has cubicles, and it appears it will not allow patients to see each other, also, in my opinion making it difficult for nurses to supervise.

At the very least I would like to see the cubicle partitions removed and replaced by curtains which can be used for privacy when necessary. I think now would be the time to make the alterations as it is currently under construction.

Dear DocW

We understand the importance of making your visits to us as comfortable as possible.

It's particularly important for us to hear straight from those who are receiving care and their views about the design of our new expansion, so thank you for sharing this with us. We have listened to the preferences of our patients in relation to the design in our early planning phase, and we have several options available to suit personal preferences for those who would like to be able to talk with others, and also those who may wish more privacy in the new oncology ward.

On arrival to the new oncology ward, the staff will work with patients and families to try to match their preference with the location of treatment. There will be a common area, and an area where the chair placement allows more than one person can be treated.

We are excited about the expansion of the Ipswich Hospital and hope the new design adds to our ability to provide the best possible care for our patients.

Thank you for taking the time to use Patient Opinion to tell us what you think, we do wish you the very best possible health in the future, and hope that we get good feedback from our patients when we open the new ward.

Kind regards
