"Dysfunctional Breathing Physio Clinic"

About: Armadale Hospital / Physiotherapy Outpatients Bentley Hospital / Physiotherapy Services

(as the patient),

I began experiencing long covid symptoms around 2.5 years ago. I did not understand what was happening to me, only that I was ill, having trouble breathing and moving and having far more (~15×) migraines than usual.

I understand that the local doctor I went to did not believe in long covid and seemingly put me many months behind on my path to healing, telling me I had a lung infection and pumping me full of antibiotics. When 3 courses of them didn't work, I recall the doctor shrugged and told me there was nothing else they could do. I asked for respiratory and other referrals, and the doctor told me not to tell my referrals about all my symptoms, to only mention my lung symptoms, and to not mention long covid.

I got a second opinion, and I was immediately referred to the Perth long covid clinic. The long covid clinic staff have been absolutely critical to helping me understand what is happening in my body and how to adapt and heal.

Without the combined expertise of the long covid clinic professionals, in particular the dysfunctional breathing physio clinic, I would have never put the pieces together to understand the effects long covid has had on me.

Through their testing and research I have been diagnosed with POTS and PEM, and now understand the delicate balance it is to properly heal each aspect and how critical pacing is to healing - something my dumbass would have never done without medical instruction as I grew up in a 'toughen up buttercup' culture which had me incorrectly pushing myself physically and suffering in silence as I got worse and not better.

Thanks to the kind and informative healthcare professionals of the dysfunctional breathing physio clinic I was given the knowledge necessary to make positive progress healing my illness, and hope. I will forever be grateful to them for making sense of what is happening to me.

I weep for those without access to such life-changing care who are still suffering without understanding what is happening to them or how to properly get well.
