"Birth of my son, nursery, breastfeeding"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Bunbury hospital after I had seen my doctor for a routine appointment. I was developing pre-eclampsia and was going to be induced, before my waters broke and I went into labour on my own! Everything happened so quickly and within what felt like only a few hours of us being there, he was born! He got sent to the nursery for the first few days, but was able to join us on the postpartum ward on our final night.

The care we received throughout every step was nothing short of amazing. If I could thank every staff member by name I would! All the staff members kept me updated on what was happening in the nursery and made us feel so looked after.

I wanted to specifically thank the beautiful midwife Sam who looked after me while I was labour and was so patient, attentive, and informative to my partner and I. Midwife Cassia the breastfeeding guru on the postpartum ward who was so full of knowledge and tips and got my son to feed without a nipple shield within about 5 minutes. The anaesthetist whose name I cant remember, but who managed to give me an amazing epidural despite me not being able to sit still! All the staff in nursery who where so welcoming and gentle with all the babies. Thank-you to everyone who was involved in my birth journey and made it as memorable as it was <3

Dear libradd89,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion. I can only imagine how you and your partner must have been feeling with concerns around developing pre-eclampsia, and planning an induction. And then to go into labour and birth so rapidly, with a trip to the special care nursery ... it must have been a bit of an emotional roller coaster.

I am glad that we were able to support you throughout and communicate with openness and transparency so you were involved and informed each step of the way. I will send out your feedback to all the team, with a particular mention to Cassia. She is a wonderful Midwife and such as asset to the team.

I hope that you and your family are settling in at home, and that your parenting journey is a little calmer than your baby's entrance into this world. Thank you again for your beautiful words and on behalf of the maternity team, we wish you all the best.

Kind regards,

Katrina Jones
