After being wheeled into the day surgery room on my bed and meeting everyone we finally go into surgery. My anaesthetist was amazing walked me through every step of what he was doing. Coming to lay me down and doing the ice test all was great going well.
I noticed the doctor that introduced themself to me wasn’t actually the doctor preforming the surgery but in-fact was telling someone else what to do, seemed like they were training someone without my consent at all.
This procedure then ended up taking way longer than needed and the spinal block wore off leaving me feeling extreme amount of pain the point I thought my head was going to explode and I thought I was going to die.
I couldn’t hold my baby because of the amount of pain I was in. I could feel the gauze they were using inside my stomach! The anaesthetist told the doctors they needed to hurry up, they asked me if I wanted to be put to sleep but I then didn’t want to miss out on my baby’s first 3 hours of life if they were almost done.
At this point the trained doctor took back over and stitched me up and got me into recovery. This was my 3rd section and if it was my first it definitely would have been my last. I was already not wanting to birth in Bunbury after hearing horror stories.
Fast forward back to my room, after 2 hours of my last 2 babies I was up and showering and cleaning up because let’s be real no one wants to sit naked in a pool of your own blood for many hours. 4.5 hours after this one I asked to be assisted up, student midwife returned with another midwife to be told they didn’t believe I could do it, but who’s to know your own body better than yourself? Kept telling me they think I physically can’t do it and that if I really wanted to I could but they sat on the chair in my room beside my bed seemingly not a care in the world! I stood up by myself as it seemed they wouldn’t help at all and all they apparently could ask was how my feet feel, I said my feet are fine but I’m bleeding everywhere that’s a bit gross don’t you think? And all they could reply back was I’ll get you a towel and you can hold it and walk the rest of the way. No help or anything offered.
I barely saw them after that even after pressing gels they would come in with seemingly not a care in the world. The paediatrician came in the next day and checked over baby, going around, checked baby's bum and then let baby suck on that same finger. My incision was bleeding and they kept stopping it with gauze and tape rather than changing and putting fresh on. I felt that no one would listen to me that baby hadn’t done a wee or poo and looked jaundice.
Finally got to transfer to go back to another Hospital and from then on I felt it was amazing! Jaundice testing was done and help was received! I felt it was horrible service and very traumatic experience at Bunbury.
