"MGP4 KEMH experience."

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Coming into a pregnancy for the first time can be overwhelming. Trying to figure out what pathway of birth and delivery suits you and your partner, for us, felt like a big decision. When my husband and I learnt about the MGP4 at KEMH we knew that this was the pathway for us, and how right we were!

The experience of having the same midwife who knew me and knew my husband enabled us to have such a positive experience before, during and after brith. We were blessed to have been allocated midwife Emma throughout our journey. Emma understood what we ideally wanted for the birth of our first baby. She gave us very useful resources and tools to help us prepare for a water birth with as minimal intervention as possible.

We had an incredibly positive experience! Everything went exactly as it should have for us, and our baby. We were able to have a water birth with minimal intervention and it was the most incredible experience. I felt safe during the whole experience because I knew Emma and trusted her to guide us as we needed.

This program empowered me to have the confidence to believe I could achieve the birth that we wanted. It gave me the strength to let my body do what it was so capable of doing. At no point did my husband, or our midwife Emma think I wasn’t able to achieve a water birth with no intervention, and that gave me the strength to do it.

I cannot recommend this programme enough and will absolutely be going on this journey with MGP4 again in the future.

Dear mineralyr64,

Congratulations on the arrival of your first baby! Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience with the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) 4 at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH). You have so beautifully highlighted some of the benefits of the MGP model of care, including how it allows women and their primary midwife to build trust and a positive rapport. It’s inspiring to hear how Emma’s guidance empowered you to achieve the water birth you had envisioned.

The fact that you would seek our service for future babies is a testament to Emma’s kindness and the success of the MGP4 programme. We will be very pleased to share your feedback with Emma and the wider MGP4 team to let them know the positive impact they have had on your pregnancy and birth experience.

Wishing you and your family all the best.

Karen
