"Outpatient clinic - running late and poor communication"

About: Perth Children's Hospital / Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery - Outpatient Clinic C

(as a service user),

Unfortunately it seems to be that the telehealth Plastics clinic is constantly running late. I suspect that telehealth and servicing of rural patients is low on the priority list. Our first plastics telehealth appointment was 30 minutes late despite being the first appointment of the day and now the follow up phone consult has, at the time of writing this, not occurred despite being over 2hrs late. When I called the plastics clinic initially to follow up I was told that they will call soon. When I tried to call the clinic again they did not answer. I hope that we are not falsely marked as a DNA when we have waited and not been called.

In terms of communication we have also experienced similarly to homamxn84 we also were informed of the appointment incredibly late Friday afternoon for a Monday morning appointment which leaves little time for organisation. This poor communication leaves much to be hoped for.

Dear nacchrist

I am sorry to hear of your experience and for the frustration and inconvenience caused. I recognise that the absence of clear, timely communication would have compounded an already difficult situation, creating unnecessary stress - something we strive to prevent.

Please be reassured that providing accessible high quality medical care to rural communities is a key priority and we are committed to understanding what occurred in this instance. If you are open to this, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss your concerns further. If you would like to do so, please contact the Child and Family Liaison Service by phone on 6456 0032 or by email at CAHSFeedback@health.wa.gov.au.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Warm Regards

Nurse Co-Director Surgical Directorate
Child and Adolescent Health Service
